the life and light giving word

“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was
God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through Him, and
without Him nothing was made that was made. In Him was life, and the life was
the light of men. And the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not
comprehend it.” John 1:1-5
The word of God and Jesus are the same. This implies that that you cannot
know Jesus beyond your knowledge of God’s word. Your altitude in life is tied
to your knowledge of God. Therefore, your relationship with the word of God
is critical to your success or otherwise in life. In Joshua 1:8 we understand
that there is what is called good success. If there is good success it then
means that not all successes are good.
The fact that the word of God and Jesus are the same means that what is in
Jesus is found in His word. Our text mentions two of those things that are in
Jesus, namely life and light.
God told Adam that the day he eats the forbidden fruit he will die (Gen.2:16-
17). We know that the death God meant here was not physical death or
ceasing to exist because when Adam ate that fruit he did not cease to exist.
However, he lost his relationship with God. Therefore, we understand that
relationship with God is life while absence of relationship with God is death.
Jesus said He has come that we might have not just life but abundant life
(John 10:10). We cannot have relationship with God apart from Jesus who is
the word of God made flesh. “Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and
the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.” John 14:6. Your
relationship with God grows in proportion to your relationship with His word.
The second thing our text mentions that is found in Jesus is light. There are a
lot of benefits light will bring into a man’s life. These include understanding,
speed, clear direction in your path and success. Light will also drive darkness
away. The more you allow the word of God to dominate your life the more of
the light you will carry and the more of these benefits you will experience.

THOUGHT FOR THE WEEK
“ How can you believe, who receive honor from one another, and do not seek the honor
that comes from the only God?” John 5:44
Real faith must be willing to look like a fool for a while. You cannot have real faith and fit/sync
with the societal norm around you.
