“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith,
Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.” Gal.5:22-23. KJV
Meekness is humility. It is submitting willingly to the authority of God and His word. It is
not weakness but strength or power under control. Meekness is the ability to act but
choosing not to for a higher purpose. When a person is meek, he will endure offenses
without retaliation. Meekness expresses itself in kindness, even when wronged.
There are two people the scripture testified that they were meek.
One of them was Moses. “(Now the man Moses was very meek, above all the men
which were upon the face of the earth.)”. Number 12:3. When his siblings, Aaron and
Miriam, rebelled against him, God’s anger was aroused against them, and Miriam
became afflicted with leprosy. Moses interceded for his sister despite her rebellion.
(Numbers 12:1-13). Many times, the children of Israel provoked and rebelled against
Moses and his leadership. This attracted the anger of God against them. Each time this
happened Moses interceded for them despite their rebellion, showing compassion over
vengeance
Another person the scripture testifies of His patience is Jesus. “Take my yoke upon you,
and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls”
Matt.11:29. Though Jesus could have asked the Father to send more than twelve
legions of Angels at His disposal when He was arrested and tried, He chose not to. “Or
do you think that I cannot now pray to My Father, and He will provide Me with more than
twelve legions of angels?” Matt.26:53.
Meekness is a fruit of the Spirit that the Holy Spirit brings into the life of every believer
at new birth. Like other fruit of the Spirit, it is implanted in the believer in seed form.
Every seed that is planted must be cared for before it can produce the fruit it is intended
to produce. Part of the caring is watering it and removing weeds. The Holy Spirit
implants the seed (fruit of the Spirit) in the believer. It is the responsibility of the believer
to care for this seed through watering it with the word of God, meditating and acting on
the word of God. As you keep doing this, this fruit of the Spirit will keep growing in its
expression in your life.
