SPIRITUAL GROWTH Part 14

“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith,
Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.”
Gal.5:22-23.

Faith is a fruit of the Holy Spirit who indwells every believer. Last week we dealt with two
important aspects of this faith. First, God is the source of this faith. In other words, it is
the faith of God. Secondly, at new birth, The Holy Spirit that comes to indwell the new
believer comes with the same measure of this faith of God as with every believer.

The third thing about this fruit of the Spirit, faith, is that it can be increased. “We are
bound to thank God always for you, brethren, as it is fitting, because your faith grows
exceedingly, and the love of every one of you all abounds toward each other,” 2Thess.1:3.
NKJV.
During Jesus’ earthly ministry He talked of different levels of faith. He talked of great
faith. “When Jesus heard this, he was amazed and said to those following him, “Truly I tell you, I
have not found anyone in Israel with such great faith.” Matt.8:10. NIV.
He talked of little faith.
“And immediately Jesus stretched out His hand and caught him, and said to him, “O you of little
faith, why did you doubt?”
Matt.14:31 NKJV.

This faith can be increased through feeding on the Word of God. “So then faith comes by
hearing, and hearing by the word of God.”
Rom.10:17. NKJV. The word of God is called the
word of faith. “But what saith it? The word is nigh thee, even in thy mouth, and in thy heart: that
is, the word of faith, which we preach;”
Rom.10:8 KJV. “This only I want to learn from you: Did
you receive the Spirit by the works of the law, or by the hearing of faith? Gal.3:2 NKJV.
However,
feeding on the word of God without practising it will not profit you. (James 1:22-250. Therefore,
faith must be exercised for it to grow. “And the apostles said to the Lord, “Increase our faith.” So
the Lord said, “If you have faith as a mustard seed, you can say to this mulberry tree, ‘Be pulled
up by the roots and be planted in the sea,’ and it would obey you.”
Luke 17:5-6 NKJV.

THOUGHT FOR THE WEEK
Believing is a decision followed by action. Faith is an act (saying and acting in sync with
what you believe in your heart).
