“Therefore, the LORD God of Israel says: ‘I said indeed that your house and the house of
your father would walk before Me forever.’ But now the LORD says: ‘Far be it from Me; for
those who honor Me I will honor, and those who despise Me shall be lightly esteemed.”
1Sam.2:30.
God and His word are one. “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God,
and the Word was God.” John 1:1. Therefore, to honor the word of God is to honor
God. How you receive and treat the word of God shows whether you honor or
dishonor God. “Those who accept my commandments and obey them are the ones who
love me. And because they love me, my Father will love them. And I will love them and
reveal myself to each of them.” John 14:21 NLT.
The church in Thessalonica honored the Word of God in the way they received and
treated the Word. Finally, brethren, pray for us, that the word of the Lord may
have free course, and be glorified, even as it is with you:” 2Thess.3:1. The result of this is
seen in the fruit the Word produced in their lives These included their faith and love for
each other were growing. “We are bound to thank God always for you, brethren, as it is
fitting, because your faith grows exceedingly, and the love of every one of you all abounds
toward each other,” 2Thess.1:3. They remained faithful and patient despite the
hardships and persecutions they faced. “We proudly tell God’s other churches about your
endurance and faithfulness in all the persecutions and hardships you are suffering.”
2Thess.1:4.
Abraham was a man that feared or honored God as demonstrated in His swift
obedience to God’s word when he offered his son, Isaac, to the Lord. “Then the Angel of
the LORD called to Abraham a second time out of heaven, and said: “By Myself I have
sworn, says the LORD, because you have done this thing, and have not withheld your son,
your only son—blessing I will bless you, and multiplying I will multiply your descendants
as the stars of the heaven and as the sand which is on the seashore; and your
descendants shall possess the gate of their enemies. In your seed all the nations of the
earth shall be blessed, because you have obeyed My voice.” Gen.22:15-18
