“But without faith, it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must
believe that He is and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.”
Heb.11:6
Bareness is one of the most difficult experiences that a couple can go
through. It is even worse when medical science does not have an answer and
when it has dragged on for so many years that from all-natural angles there is
no hope that the woman can conceive. The Bible records some women that
spend many years of bareness. These include Sarah, Rebekah, Hannah,
Rachel, Elizabeth (the Mother of John the Baptist) and Manoah’s wife (the mother
of Samson).
There are a few important lessons that are common to the stories of these
women.
The first lesson is that they eventually gave birth. The word of God
admonishes us that weeping may endure for a night but joy comes in the
morning. You may be passing your night of weeping, be encouraged because
your morning of joy is about to dawn. The God that came through for these
women is the same God that you serve. He has not changed and there is no
partiality with Him. “Have you not known? Have you not heard? The everlasting
God, the LORD, The Creator of the ends of the earth, neither faints nor is weary.
His understanding is unsearchable.” Isaiah 40:28.
The second lesson we learn from the stories of these women is that they
gave birth to special children. These include Isaac, Jacob, Joseph, Samuel,
John the Baptist and Samson. These were mightily used by God and
thousands of years after their lifetime we still talk about them. Their lives
have been a blessing to multitudes for many generations after them. When
your breakthrough came your testimony shall be rich.
The third lesson is that these women stayed faithful to God despite their
challenges. Hannah continued to go to the Temple every year in obedience to
the word of God. When Samuel came, she honored her vow to the Lord even
though it was a costly vow. The Bible has this to say of Elizabeth and her
husband: “Zechariah and Elizabeth were righteous in God’s eyes, careful to
obey all of the Lord’s commandments and regulations.” Luke 1:6 (NLT). No
matter what you are going through do not allow it to interrupt your fellowship
with God and His word. When the breakthrough comes do not go back on
your commitment to God.
THOUGHT FOR THE WEEK
Things you cry about today, you will shout about tomorrow. Trust in God’s love and faithfulness
even in the most difficult and loneliest of times. They are working for you a greater weight of
glory because there is no testimony without a test.
