“The LORD is my shepherd; I have all that I need.” Psalm 23:1(NLT)
“I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a
living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service. And do not be
conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may
prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.” Rom.12:1-2
Your spirit can also be trained through the word of God to become sensitive to the Holy
Spirit that indwells him. “ Like newborn babies, crave pure spiritual milk, so that by it you
may grow up in your salvation,” 1Peter 2:2. If you have stayed with someone and listened
to him for a long time, you can recognize his voice even when you are not seeing him at
that time. God and His word are one. “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was
with God, and the Word was God.” John 1:1. “For there are three that bear witness in
heaven: the Father, the Word, and the Holy Spirit; and these three are one.” 1 John 5:7. You
can confidently say, therefore, that the Bible is God speaking to you whenever you read
it. It then means that if you stay long enough in studying, meditating, and practicing the
word of God it becomes increasingly easier to recognize the voice of God and
differentiate it from other voices. God cannot contradict Himself. God that tells you to fear
not and that He has not given you the spirit of fear cannot tell you to fear. So whatever
suggests fear to you cannot be from God. The word of God instructs you to be
courageous. Therefore, a thought or voice that brings discouragement cannot be from
God. The word of God instructs you to flee lust and not make room for the flesh to
gratify the lust thereof. Any thought or voice that pulls you in the direction of lust and
gratifying the flesh cannot be from God. These are just a few examples. If these
thoughts are not from God, they must be coming from the devil. The Bible instructs us
to be spiritually vigilant because the devil is always looking for an opportunity to devour
the child of God. “Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like
a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour. Resist him, steadfast in the faith, knowing
that the same sufferings are experienced by your brotherhood in the world.” 1Peter 5:8-9.
God, through his word, instructs us on what to do with thoughts or voices that are not
coming from Him: “The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the
contrary, they have the divine power to demolish strongholds. We demolish arguments and
every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive
every thought to make it obedient to Christ.” 2Cor.10:4-5 (NIV). When any thought comes
into your mind and you know it is contrary to the word of God you should resist it and
cast it out. That is practicing the word of God. Remember that any thought you tolerate
takes root in you and will gradually dominate your life. Such a thought will eventually
determine what happens to you.
THOUGHT FOR THE WEEK
The law of attraction: Whatever your mind meditates on will be attracted into your life for as a
man thinks so he is.
