THE CROWN OF RIGHTEOUSNESS Part 1

“And now the prize awaits me—the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous
Judge, will give me on the day of his return. And the prize is not just for me but for all who
eagerly look forward to his appearing.” 2TIM.4:8 NLT.
Salvation is free but reward in heaven will be based on each person’s labour in the
Lord’s vineyard. ““And behold, I am coming quickly, and My reward is with Me, to give to every
one according to his work.” Rev.22:12 One important lesson everyone should know is that life
on this side of eternity allows you not only to chose where to spend eternity but how to spend
eternity when the person dies.
Among the rewards some people will receive in heaven are crowns. The Bible talks of many
crowns among which is the crown of righteousness. In the natural world there are certain
requirements that a person has to meet in order to receive crown. Similarly, there are conditions
to be met by those who will receive the crown of righteousness.
The crowns that await believers when the Lord comes back are classified as incorruptible
crowns because they do not fade away. The crowns that men receive in this life will not follow
them when they die and therefore are temporary. The crown that believers will receive when the
Lord returns will last forever and will be enjoyed by these believers throughout eternity. Look at
this word of wisdom from Jesus: ““Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth
and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal; but lay up for yourselves treasures in
heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal.”
Matt.6:19-20
