SPIRITUAL GROWTH. Part 7

““So that you may surely learn to sense what is vital, and approve and prize what is
excellent and of real value [recognizing the highest and the best, and distinguishing the
moral differences], and that you may be untainted and pure and unerring and blameless
[so that with hearts sincere and certain and unsullied, you may approach] the day of
Christ [not stumbling nor causing others to stumble].” Philippians‬

When you know the plan of God for your life or even when you are in the process of sincerely
seeking to know what His plan is one of the important things you must do is to know what is
vital and focusing on it. Most times what is vital is not visible but if it is not properly cared for
what is visible will not be accurate and will not last. “And the remnant that is escaped of the
house of Judah shall again take root downward, and bear fruit upward:” Isaiah 37:31 A
tree that has no deep root cannot withstand a strong wind. According to the parable of
the Sower such a tree will not produce fruit. “They on the rock are they, which, when they
hear, receive the word with joy; and these have no root, which for a while believe, and in
time of temptation fall away. Luke 8:13 We do not see the root but its quality including
its depth determines the strength and fruitfulness of the tree.

Similarly, what is vital in your life is not your body that we see. Apostle Paul called him
the inward man. “For which cause we faint not; but though our outward man perish, yet
the inward man is renewed day by day.” 2Cor.4:16. Apostle Peter called him the hidden
man of the heart. “But let it be the hidden man of the heart, in that which is not
corruptible, even the ornament of a meek and quiet spirit, which is in the sight of God of
great price” 1 Peter 3:4. This hidden man of the heart or the inward man is your spirit.

It is therefore, necessary that you care for your spirit. You can do this by feeding your
spirit with the word of God. “As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that
ye may grow thereby:” 1Peter 2:2. This will include studying, meditating, speaking and
practising the word of God. “This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but
thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all
that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt
have good success”. Joshua 1:8
Secondly, pray in the spirit/tongues often. “But ye, beloved, building up yourselves on
your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Ghost,” Jude 1:20
