SPIRITUAL GROWTH. Part 5

“Wherefore lay apart all filthiness and superfluity of naughtiness, and receive with
meekness the engrafted word, which is able to save your souls.” James 1:21

The recreated spirit of a man wants to draw him to God while the body/flesh wants to
draw him to the world. The outcome of this struggle is determined by who your mind
sides with. If your mind is renewed it will side with your spirit and your spirit will
dominate the flesh and bring your flesh under. On the other hand, if your mind is not
renewed it will side with the flesh and your flesh will dominate your spirit making such a
person a carnal Christian.
This is why the Lord instructs us to renew our mind. “And do not be conformed to this
world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that
good and acceptable and perfect will of God.” Rom.12:2
To renew your mind is to think like God thinks. The word of God reveals to us how God
thinks. The word of God is spirit and life. “It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh profits
nothing. The words that I speak to you are spirit, and they are life.” John 6:63. A mind that
is not renewed is carnal and does not submit to the word of God. “Because the carnal
mind is enmity against God; for it is not subject to the law of God, nor indeed can be.”
Romans 8:7.
To renew your mind therefore, requires that you feed on the word of God (read and
study it), meditate on it and practice God’s word. You cannot renew your mind if you
neglect any of these three steps.
Before you take any step or respond to any situation always ask yourself this question:
what does the word of God say about this? Then respond in line with what the Word of
God says. Go through every moment of your life mindful of the Word of God.
