“But I say, walk and live [habitually] in the [Holy] Spirit [responsive to and
controlled and guided by the Spirit]; then you will certainly not gratify the
cravings and desires of the flesh (of human nature without God). For the
desires of the flesh are opposed to the [Holy] Spirit, and the [desires of the]
Spirit are opposed to the flesh (godless human nature); for these are
antagonistic to each other [continually withstanding and in conflict with
each other], so that you are not free but are prevented from doing what you
desire to do.” Galatians
Another mark of spiritual maturity is growing in yielding to the Spirit. Man is
a spirit, has a soul and lives in a body. As born-again Christian, your spirit
is alive and regenerated. “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new
creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.”
2COR.5:17.
Your regenerated spirit wants to draw you closer to God. The Holy Spirit
lives in your spirit. Your spirit searches and receives from the indwelling
Holy Spirit the mind and will of God.
“The spirit of man is the candle of the LORD, searching all the inward parts of
the belly.” Prov.20:27.
“In the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried, saying, If
any man thirst, let him come unto me, and drink. He that believeth on me, as
the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water. (But
this spake he of the Spirit, which they that believe on him should receive: for
the Holy Ghost was not yet given; because that Jesus was not yet glorified.)”
John 7:37-39).
“But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered
into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love
him. But God hath revealed them unto us by his Spirit: for the Spirit
searcheth all things, yea, the deep things of God. For what man knoweth the
things of a man, save the spirit of man which is in him? even so the things of
God knoweth no man, but the Spirit of God.” 1COR.2:9-11,
That which your flesh does not know can be known by your spirit because
your spirit searches and receives from the Spirit of God that inhabits your
spirit. Your spirit draws you towards God unlike your flesh that wants to
draw you towards the world.
