“But the hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in
spirit and truth; for the Father is seeking such to worship Him.” John 4:23
God’s original purpose of creating man was to fellowship with man. Adam and Eve
enjoyed this fellowship until they fell into sin. “And they heard the voice of the LORD God
walking in the garden in the cool of the day: and Adam and his wife hid themselves from
the presence of the LORD God amongst the trees of the garden.: Genesis 3:8. For Adam
and Eve to recognize the voice of God implies that they have been fellowshipping
together before now.
When Jesus called the twelve apostles, the first assignment He gave them was that
they should be (fellowship) with Him. “And he ordained twelve, that they should be with
him, and that he might send them forth to preach,” Mark 3:14.
God is continually knocking at the heart of man desiring for man to invite Him in so that
He can fellowship with man. “Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my
voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me.”
Rev 3:20.
For us to be effective in our Christian lives we must be in union or fellowship with Him.
“Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the
vine; no more can ye, except ye abide in me. I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that
abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do
nothing.” John 15:4-5. This implies that the level of our effectiveness in any Christian
endeavour is dependent on the depth of our relationship/fellowship with God. No
wonder Jesus called the apostles to first be with Him before He could send them out
for ministry.
THOUGHT FOR WEEK
You cannot spend time with the Father God, with the Lord Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit
and with the Holy Written Word without partaking their stability and their unshakableness
