“I have no greater joy than to hear that my children are walking in the truth.” 3John 1:4
NIV
From the above text we understand that nothing pleases God more than when we live in
line with His word. The word of God is truth. “Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is
truth.” John 17: 17.KJV
Living by the Word of God honours God. This is why God will make His abode with the
one that loves and obeys His word. “Whoever has my commands and keeps them is the
one who loves me. The one who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I too will love
them and show myself to them.” Then Judas (not Judas Iscariot) said, “But, Lord, why do
you intend to show yourself to us and not to the world?” Jesus replied, “Anyone who loves
me will obey my teaching. My Father will love them, and we will come to them and make
our home with them.” John 14:21-23 NIV.
God and His word are inseparable. How you treat a man’s word is a reflection of how
much you respect that person. In the same way God has great regard of the person that
esteems His word highly. The Lord reveals His secrets to those who fear Him. “The
LORD confides in those who fear him; he makes his covenant known to them.” Psalm
25:14 NIV.
Fearing the Lord is different from being afraid of Him. It is synonymous with honoring
Him or willing and ready obedience to God and His Word. This was demonstrated by
Abraham when he instantly obeyed God’s instruction to sacrifice his only son, Isaac,
who he loved dearly. “But the Angel of the LORD called to him from heaven and said,
“Abraham, Abraham!” So he said, “Here I am.” And He said, “Do not lay your hand on the
lad, or do anything to him; for now I know that you fear God, since you have not withheld
your son, your only son, from Me.” Genesis 22:11-12.
This is why when God was about to destroy Sodom and Gomorrah, He did not hide it
from Abraham. “And the LORD said, Shall I hide from Abraham that thing which I do;
Seeing that Abraham shall surely become a great and mighty nation, and all the nations of
the earth shall be blessed in him? For I know him, that he will command his children and
his household after him, and they shall keep the way of the LORD, to do justice and
judgment; that the LORD may bring upon Abraham that which he hath spoken of him.”
Genesis 18:17-19. By God revealing His secret to him, Abraham was able to deliver his
nephew, Lot out of destruction through his informed prayers.
