“Be not carried about with divers and strange doctrines. For it is a good thing that the
heart be established with grace; not with meats, which have not profited them that have
been occupied therein.” Heb.13:9
An established heart is one whose confidence is in God and not man or things. ““But
blessed is the one who trusts in the LORD, whose confidence is in him. They will be like
a tree planted by the water that sends out its roots by the stream. It does not fear when
heat comes; its leaves are always green. It has no worries in a year of drought and never
fails to bear fruit.” Jeremiah 17:7-8. One important characteristic of a heart that trust in
the Lord is that such a heart focuses on God. “You will keep him in perfect
peace, Whose mind is stayed on You, Because he trusts in You.” Isaiah 26:3. NKJV. In
the NLT version, the thoughts of such a heart is fixed on God. The reason such a heart is
stayed on God is because he trusts in or puts confidence in God. What you put your
trust or confidence in is what will occupy your mind or thought most of the time.
An established heart will meditate often on the greatness or almightiness of God. “But
Jesus looked at them and said, “With men it is impossible, but not with God; for with
God all things are possible.” Mark 10:27. “‘Ah, Lord GOD! Behold, You have made the
heavens and the earth by Your great power and outstretched arm. There is nothing too
hard for You.” Jeremiah 32:17
An established heart will meditate often on God’s promises. “But my God shall supply all
your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.” Phil.4:19. “When you go
through deep waters, I will be with you. When you go through rivers of difficulty, you will
not drown. When you walk through the fire of oppression, you will not be burned up; the
flames will not consume you.” Isaiah 43:2. “No weapon formed against you shall
prosper, And every tongue which rises against you in judgment You shall condemn.
This is the heritage of the servants of the LORD, And their righteousness is from Me,”
Says the LORD. Isaiah 54:17. “Bring all the tithes into the storehouse, That there may be
food in My house, And try Me now in this,” Says the LORD of hosts, “If I will not open for
you the windows of heaven And pour out for you such blessing That there will not be
room enough to receive it.” Malachi 3:10.
An established heart will meditate often on God’s faithfulness. “Let us hold fast the
confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is faithful.” Heb.10:23.
“Not one of all the LORD’s good promises to Israel failed; every one was fulfilled.”
Joshua 21:45. NIV.
THOUGHT OF THE WEEK
“No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man; but God is faithful,
who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation
will also make the way of escape, that you may be able to bear it.” 1COR.10:13.
You cannot face anything you cannot overcome you trust God to help you.
