“God is faithful, by whom ye were called unto the fellowship of his Son Jesus Christ our
Lord.” 1Cor.1:9
You can engage in Christian service without being in fellowship with the owner of the
work. However, you cannot be in true fellowship with Him without engaging yourself in
serving in His Kingdom. Those that serve without being in fellowship with Him cannot
produce fruit that will endure and will likely not be serving in the area that God has
ordained them to serve. It is from the place of fellowship with Him that He sends you.
He called the apostles to first be with Him and then He sent them to minister. It was
while Apostle Paul and Barnabas along with other disciples were mistering to the Lord
that He sent them out. “While they were worshiping the Lord and fasting, the Holy Spirit said,
“Set apart for me Barnabas and Saul for the work to which I have called them.” Acts 13:2.NIV
You cannot walk with or have true fellowship with someone you do not agree with. “Can two
walks together, unless they are agreed?” Amos 3:3. “Do not be unequally yoked together with
unbelievers. For what fellowship has righteousness with lawlessness? And what communion has
light with darkness? 2Cor.6:14. God is light and for you to enjoy true fellowship with Him you
must walk in the light. “This then is the message which we have heard of him, and declare unto
you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all. If we say that we have fellowship with him,
and walk in darkness, we lie, and do not the truth: But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light,
we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all
sin.” 1John 1:5-7.
To walk in the light implies among other things:
Receive Jesus as your personal Saviour and Lord. When you take this step God delivers
you from darkness to light. “Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath
translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son:” Colossians 1:13. “But ye are a chosen
generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth
the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light:” 1Peter
2:9.
Secondly, walk in love. “He who loves his brother abides in the light, and there is no cause
for stumbling in him. But he who hates his brother is in darkness and walks in darkness,
and does not know where he is going, because the darkness has blinded his eyes.” 1John
2:10-11.
Walk as a child of the day and light. “You are all sons of light and sons of the day. We are
not of the night nor of darkness. Therefore, let us not sleep, as others do, but let us watch
and be sober. For those who sleep, sleep at night, and those who get drunk are drunk at
night. But let us who are of the day be sober, putting on the breastplate of faith and love,
and as a helmet the hope of salvation.” 1Thess.5:5-8
THOUGHT FOR THE WEEK
Those who spend time in God’s presence are slow to speak, slow to judge, quick to love
and help. There is a holy calmness about their lives that challenges the restless ones
