“When I was a child, I spoke and thought and reasoned as a child. But when I grew up, I
put away childish things” 1COR.13:11 NLT
Today we will look at the fourth weight we should lay aside or avoid. “Some of the
materials here have been taken from Kenneth E Hagin’s mini book: Five Hinderances to
Growth in Grace” and the teaching of Nancy Dufresne on The Price of Double Portion
Anointing.
AVOID LOQUACIITY OR TALKATIVENESS: Talkativeness is a great
hinderance to growth in grace.” In the multitude of words sin is not
lacking, but he who restrains his lips is wise.” Prov.10:19. Our spiritual
growth must show up in our speech or we are not growing. You should pay
attention to your speech. Line your word up with God’s word. Being overly
talkative will hold someone in spiritual carnality. “Wherefore, my beloved
brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to
wrath:” James 1:19. Be better at listening. You can learn more by
listening than by talking. Study to be quiet. Practice waiting on God. “But
those who wait on the LORD Shall renew their strength; They shall
mount up with wings like eagles, They shall run and not be weary,
They shall walk and not faint.” Isaiah 40:31. If you do not know God’s
will for you, take enough time to wait on God until you know. This may take
days, weeks or even months. You still carry on the necessary duties of life
but at the same time spend every possible minute in His presence. It is men
and women who hear from heaven who bring heaven blessings down on
people here. You can repent of what you have said but you cannot take
back what you have said. When you are growing up spiritually you will not
speak carelessly. When you spend time with God you will know that your
word carry power. Hence, you are careful with your words both when you
are alone and when with people. Practice listening in prayer (prayer should
not be a monologue) and when talking with people. How you use your
mouth directly affect your spiritual progress. “And the tongue is a fire, a
world of iniquity. The tongue is so set among our members that it
defiles the whole body, and sets on fire the course of nature; and it is
set on fire by hell.” James 3:6 This scripture shows the influence of your
tongue on everything about your life including your body. No wonder the
Psalmist prayed: “Set a guard, O LORD, over my mouth; Keep watch
over the door of my lips.” Psalm 141:3.
