“Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke
upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for
your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.” Matt. 11:28-30
True rest means inward peace and quietness. It is refreshment to the soul. It is freedom form
anxiety. True rest thrives irrespective of the circumstances of life. It is not affected by the
storms of life. True rest brings the refreshment that equips one for divine assignment. Rest is
different from sleep. The Bible talks of God resting on the 7 th day when He has finished His
work. “And on the seventh day God ended His work which He had done, and He rested on the
seventh day from all His work which He had done.” Gen.2:2. However the Bible also said that God
does not sleep. “Behold, He who keeps Israel Shall neither slumber nor sleep.” Psalm 121:4
God is the source of true rest. This rest can only be found in Jesus. From our test there are three
conditions that are necessary to experiencing true rest. First you must come to Him, Secondly,
you must be yoked with him or remain connected to Him. Thirdly, you must learn and keep
learning of Him.
There is no true rest outside Jesus Christ. For one to enjoy true rest the person must come to
the source of true rest, Jesus Christ. This implies surrendering your life to Hm by receiving Him
not only as your Saviour but also as your Lord.. When He comes into your life to dwell He brings
His peace with Him. “Peace, I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I
give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.” John 14:27. “These things I
have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation; but be
of good cheer, I have overcome the world.” John 16:33
THOUGHT FOR THE WEEK
You are not where you are by accident. Your life is a sum total of the seed you have sown.
