“Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke
upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for
your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.” Matt. 11:28-30
To enjoy the rest that Jesus gives, you must not only come to Him but be yoked to Him.
When two oxen are yoked together, they are connected to each other and keep in steps
with each other. This way efficiency is improved or maximized. So, when Jesus
instructs us to take His yoke, He implies that we should stay connected to Him. This is
further clarified in John 15:4-5: “Abide in Me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit
of itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in Me. “I am the
vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for
without Me you can do nothing.”. It is not that people are not doing things without being
connected to Jesus. Let us look at another verse of scripture. “A Song of Ascents. Of
Solomon. Unless the LORD builds the house, they labor in vain who build it; Unless the
LORD guards the city, The watchman stays awake in vain.” Psalm 127:1. Note they built
the house but because the Lord is not in it their labour is in vain. There are many things
people do even in ministry or supposedly for God but if God is not behind it the labour is
vain or has no eternal reward. The person who does such a work may receive the praise
of men but not of God and therefore no eternal reward. Only results that are backed by
God brings satisfaction. The way we stay yoked to Jesus is by fellowshipping with Him
and His word. Jesus and His Word are one. You fellowship with His word through
studying and meditating on the Word of God on a continual basis. This also includes
practising the truth of the Word of God that is revealed to us.
THOUGHT FOR THE WEEK
If you do not stand for the Word of God you will fall for anything.
